London - Charming, Vibrant, Busy and Magical

“It is difficult to speak adequately or justly of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or cheerful, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent.” – Henry James

The third most-visited city in the world, London has a sight to behold and a life flanked with culture. The city has much to offer, for all tastes, budgets and cultural persuasions. It is mesmerizing with its deep history, beautifully ornate historic buildings, modern architectural marvels, and world-class museums housed in beautiful architecture. The contrast of new versus old and the juxtaposition of these elements is one of the things that makes London so physically enthralling.

Taking on 2000 years of history, London's eye-opening antiquity is everywhere to be seen. The city's buildings are striking milestones in a charming biography, and many of them such as the Tower of London, London Bridge, Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben – are instantly recognizable landmarks. Although there are contemporary buildings to add a modern touch to the city’s silhouette such as the Shard, the Tate Modern extension and the Sky Garden, it never drowns out London’s seasoned, historical narrative. Architectural magnificence rises up in the West End, ancient remains are scattered among the City and charming mini cafes punctuate the historic quarters, suburbs and river banks.

Running through all the architecture is the river Thames – still the life blood of the city, flanked with culture at every turn. London finds the perfect balance between wide-open vistas with leafy landscape, and the high-density, sight-packed urban exploration. Central London is where the major museums, galleries and most iconic sights congregate, but you can visit the enormous Hyde Park, Hampstead Heath or the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to flee the crowds and rest your soul in wide open greens. You can also venture further out to Kew Gardens, Richmond or Hampton Court Palace for beautiful panoramas of riverside London.

An established innovator of art and culture, London is a city of ideas and imagination. Londoners have always been into fashion, art and music which makes the city one of the world capitals for culture. The city’s creative genius is constantly active; whether it's theatrical innovation, contemporary art, pioneering music, writing, poetry, architecture or design.

Food is another creative arena that has become a tireless obsession in certain circles. The city’s thriving culinary scene rivals any city in the world, whether it is street food, fine dining or global cuisine.

Famous with the constant rain, “The Big Smoke” leaves a lasting impression on all those that visit. The inspiring city has been featured in countless novels, poems, songs and musings over the years and it is not hard to understand the reason once you find yourself in the enchanting streets of London. Busy, crowded, rainy yet strikingly beautiful and inspiring.
